Calmer conditions expected on Labor Day with a few showers, chance of rain increases mid-week

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – It rained all weekend in SWLA, but it looks like we’ll get a short break early this week.

If you’re planning on getting outside to celebrate Labor Day, the good news is that the chances of rain will be much lower than they have been over the past few days. There should still be room for a few scattered showers and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm in the afternoon, but with more typical summer coverage.

The sky should still be cloudy, so despite the precipitation, the temperature will remain around 32°C in many places.

Tuesday looks similar, but then the wet weather is expected to return. On Wednesday, the low pressure system that brought the recent rain will likely approach the SWLA after moving south on Labor Day.

This means that a greater chance of rain is likely from Wednesday into Thursday. After that, the chances of rain will gradually decrease until next weekend.

In the tropics, the National Hurricane Center still has a very small chance that our troublesome wind low could try to organize. The chance is very small, and the only effect here would be increased rain in the middle of the week.

Elsewhere, we continue to see a wave that will reach the Caribbean this week and head west. It remains disorganized and development will likely be slow and will not occur until it approaches the western Caribbean. Of course, there is a chance that this wave may not develop at all! We will continue to monitor it as it may eventually move into the southern Gulf. But it is too early to tell what its long-term fate will be. So for now, there is no cause for concern in SWLA, and if that changes, we will of course let you know.
