Man accused of killing woman and leaving body in car in Logan to appear in court

A Kenyan man wanted in connection with the killing of a Whitman woman who authorities say was found dead in her car will appear in court on Tuesday, officials said.

Kevin Kangethe, 42, charged with the murder of Margaret Mbitu, 31, will be arraigned on Sept. 3 in Suffolk Superior Court at approximately 9:30 a.m., Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said in a statement.

Kangethe traveled to Kenya after Mbitu’s body was found in a car at Boston Logan International Airport on November 1, 2023, the statement said.

The district attorney said Mbitu was stabbed to death. Law enforcement will provide media access after the hearing.

“I am deeply grateful to all state, federal and Kenyan authorities who worked so hard to return Kevin Kangethe to Boston,” Hayden said in a statement. “I am especially grateful that Maggie Mbitu’s family and friends will finally see the man accused of her death face justice.”
