Suspect charged with assaulting man who allegedly made inappropriate comments to suspect’s teenage daughter

Casey Charles Bentley, 33, of Caldwell County, was arrested Monday (September 2) by Alexander County Sheriff’s Department deputies and charged with assault causing serious bodily injury.

Bentley was arrested after an incident at a boat ramp on Hickory Lake in the Bethlehem Community. He allegedly attacked a man after the victim allegedly made inappropriate comments about Bentley’s teenage daughter. The incident was reported to have occurred in the Wittenburg Access Area.

The scale of the attack led to the victim being transported to a regional medical facility with serious injuries. Sheriff Chad Pennell said Monday afternoon that no weapon was used and the suspect was cooperating with the investigation.

As of Monday afternoon, Bentley was no longer listed in custody. Bail had been set at $75,000 earlier.
