Bomet student brutally attacks classmate with panga

At Kiptobit Secondary School in Bomet County, learning and other school activities were suspended after a fourth-grade student attacked a female student with a panga, suspecting it was an affair.

Bomet East Sub-county police chief Joseph Chesire said the suspect, an 18-year-old who is a part-time student at the school, came to the school with a sharpened Panga knife and confronted his alleged lover, also 18.

Shortly afterwards, an argument broke out during which the suspect stabbed the student, causing her to suffer deep cuts to her head, neck and face.

The attacker threw the weapon towards the building and fled the scene, leaving the third-grade girl defenseless and bleeding profusely.

Students who witnessed the horror raised an alarm which attracted villagers who came and took the victim to Longisa Hospital where he was treated.

A parent, who wished to remain anonymous, said the school security guard was absent and all teachers were still absent due to the strike, leaving the entire institution to be run by student leaders.

Police officers from the Longisa police station examined the scene and found Panga’s blood stain.

Attempts to locate the suspect have been unsuccessful.
