A woman was seriously injured after being attacked by three dogs in Brooklyn Park on Tuesday evening.

What do we know

The attack occurred around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at Huntington Place Apartments in the 5800 block of Zane Avenue North.

Police say the woman was screaming for help as she was being attacked by three pit bulls. A security guard at the apartment complex tried to stop the attack and injured one of the dogs, but suffered injuries to his left hand.

Officers arrived at the scene and found a woman with what they described as serious injuries. First responders provided medical aid to the woman until she was taken to hospital, where she remains in critical but stable condition, according to police.

Authorities did not say whether the guard required medical attention for his injuries.

What we don’t know

The cause of the attack remains unknown, as is the exact location in the apartment complex where the incident occurred.

Police said the three dogs belong to a woman and her boyfriend. One of the dogs is in quarantine at an animal shelter, while another was put down on the spot “due to aggression,” and a third dog was later put down due to injuries.

Other Dog Attacks in Brooklyn Park

While dog attacks are uncommon, Brooklyn Park police have investigated three other cases of attacks in recent months.

On July 19, a 3-year-old boy was attacked in the backyard of a Brooklyn Park home. The boy was with his family to pick out a puppy when he was attacked by two American bulldogs, the puppy’s parents. He did not survive his injuries.

A few days later, a 7-year-old girl was injured in a dog attack, and when officers tried to gain control of the dog, it tried to attack another child. The dog ultimately died in the incident.

The third attack occurred on August 6, when two dogs escaped from a yard and attacked a nearby homeowner and his chickens. Police previously told FOX 9 that at least one chicken was killed and the homeowner suffered minor injuries in the attack.
