First Day of Phoenix Area Heat Alert

First Day of Phoenix Area Heat Alert

PHOENIX (AZ family) — Sunny and hot today in the Valley, with a forecast high of 111 degrees. The average high in Phoenix this time of year is 104 degrees, and the record high today is 114 degrees.

An excessive heat warning goes into effect at 11 a.m. today and lasts until 8 p.m. Friday due to dangerously high temperatures. Today, tomorrow and Friday are first alert weather days in the Valley.

An unusually strong high-pressure system will keep temperatures near record highs through the end of the workweek, and dry air will keep the chance of thunderstorms across the state to a minimum.

By the end of the week, the return of monsoon moisture will bring back the chance for thunderstorms in the mountains, but the Valley will have a dry weekend. Temperatures will drop slightly by then, but will still remain above average around 108 degrees.
