First flood alert by the end of the week

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Heavy rainfall began Wednesday morning and will continue to increase over the next few days. Rain and clouds will keep temperatures in the 80s, but heavy rain could cause street flooding. Some areas could see 4 to 6 inches of rain by Friday evening, and moist, tropical air will move across southeastern Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast into the weekend. There will also be lightning, gusty winds and the potential for severe thunderstorms that could develop into tornadoes. A front will pass through Saturday, which will clear out the storms and bring much drier air. Temperatures will be in the 80s, but they will be more pleasant to the touch. In the tropics, the National Hurricane Center continues to monitor several tropical waves, but all have a small chance of developing over the current seven-day period.
