Woman dies in climbing accident at Lover’s Leap near Lake Tahoe

A woman died Thursday after a rock climbing accident at Lover’s Leap, a popular climbing spot near Lake Tahoe, according to South Tahoe Now.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to the outlet that a 30-year-old woman fell while climbing with her partner at Lover’s Leap and later died. A sheriff’s office helicopter and El Dorado County Search and Rescue teams arrived on the scene around 5 p.m. Thursday to assist in her recovery, according to South Tahoe Now. There is no other information about the incident at this time.

Lover’s Leap is a nearly 600-foot-high granite rock formation in the El Dorado National Forest. Its four main faces are known for challenging climbing routes that draw crowds on weekends and throughout the summer. There is a campground at the western base of the cliff.

The El Dorado County communications director declined to comment on the incident.
